MAS Modification
I did the MAS modification this weekend. Thanks to linh and his great instructions. It only took 1.5 hours. I am a slow, but deliberate sander. I must say that the car does run much smoother. The “lag” when passing from 60 MPH is much less. Pulling out in traffic from a stop is also much smoother. I would recommend the modification to anyone.
One addition to what linh did, I added a hose clamp at the base of the intake tube. The original clips that hold the MAS into the intercooler can now be used to keep all in place and tight.

PrOwler,
Look at linh post dated 8/25 on saving $700 on a MAS relocation. He includes lots of pics.
Yes, it does make a big difference. Around slow corners, give it some gas and there is a little lag and then zoom. Not the big lag that was normal with the plasement of the MAS.

Mercedes decided to relocated the MAS/MAF on the post 2000 slk model and C coupe to near the throttle body must be for a reason. You don't gain hp from it but it give you a smoother and better throttle responsed. Here' the link..........

Pr0wler,

It is the original one that linh did. He came up with the modification. He deserves all of the credit.
Some like the "blast" that you get with the stock car. Put your foot down, wait and then hold on. With the modification, everything is much smooter. For me (and the wife) it does make the car more enjoyable to drive. Much easier to power out of slow corners. A little lag, but not as bad as before.
You can always change it back if you want to.
