Shock Absorber Recommendation?

I need to change the shocks on my 98 SLK230 and prefer a decent shock with variable valve timing. I'm currently looking at Bilstein and KYB options in the hope that they will smooth out the little stuff while performing nicely when I want to really drive the car. Does anyone have a recommendation from personal experience?

Variable valve timing eh? You'll be hard pressed to find ANY shock absorber that has that sort of Engine technology.

That aside, I'd reccommend Koni Yellow/Sports. I have had them on my SLK for 4 years or so and they're great.
