About to buy SLK 230, help a newbie out!

Hey everybody, I'm about to join you guys in the SLK world!

This will actually be my first car so I have a bunch of questions. I read through a lot of this forum but still have a few questions.

1. I live in Pittsburgh and after reading around, realized that I'm going to need a good set of winter tires. Any recommendations? Anything from tirerack?

2. I'm deciding between a 1999 Sport one and I think a 2000 normal one. Assuming price and other factors to be the same, were there updates on the 2000 one that make it much better?

3. If I do get the AMG sport one, do I have to get 17" winter wheels or can I get the same 16" ones that fit the non AMG edition? (I tried finding tires on tirerack and when I input the sport edition the tire selection severely drops while the normal slk230 has tons of options.

4.One of the AMG's high beams don't work. Since I have no experience working on cars, I'm not so keen on doing it myself. I might have a friend who does a lot of work help me but I don't think he's ever worked with Mercedes. Any idea how much it would cost the dealership to do it?

Thanks guys! I hope to someday be of help to others once I learn the ropes haha

1. We only use chains, that's what's required in the snow in So Cal
2. 1999 and 2000 are the same. They had a midyear facelift around March where the 2000 is like the 2001. The annoying thing about 2000 is that it was transitional and has parts from 1999, some unique parts, some from 2001.
3. AMG brakes will not accomondate 17" wheels (I'm assuming you mean a SLK32 AMG and not some lame decorator package).,
4. Some dealers will change bulbs for free, others will charge up to $4,000 and fix everything except the bulb like my local dealer.

If it is a 1999, then it is not an AMG but a Sport Model with an AMG sticker on it... The face lift happened in the 2001 model. The real AMG model came out in 2002 as an SLK32.
