Loss of Power - HELP!

My girlfriend has a MY01 320 SLK. We're having a serious problem and I am taking the car in as soon as I can. However I am trying to figure out what's going on.

When the car is running for awhile - or from a cold start - the engine has (looses) all of its power after a dead stop.

After pressing on the accelerator from a dead stop the engine has 0% power then after a full 2-3 sec the engine kicks in and acts normal.

When this happens, we pull over and turn off the engine and wait 1 min. before restarting. After we restart the engine the problem goes away.

This has been going on for nearly 4 days. Just tonight the check engine light is now on.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help.
Robert

You can replace the pedal position sensor yourself, can't imagine it's that hard or be very expensive. Check my website resource section for links to Duval Motors for the part and SLK Tech Manual component locator to find where it is. If it's intermittent it could be the connector is loose so check that first. Of course being a mechanic pot, it's going get dirty/corroded internally and there's not much you can do about that.
