SLK/R170: Im new to these forums and to the SLK
Im new here and I just got my SLK yesterday. I actually bought it off ebay from a man who does 80% of his car selling business on. Its a 1999 SLK230 5 speed with 20,000 miles. So far my slk experience has been awesome. I love the car, much faster than my modified celica. Are there any mods for this car out there?
Thank you,
I'll see you around the forum
Only pic so far: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/stillfly237
click slk and the pic is in there
Complete with AMG package too.Anyway, there are some mods out there - especially for the SLK230 which, as the 'original' SLK, is really picking up so momentum in the tuning world. I'd scan through the archives on this forum and have a look. I am sure that linh could offer you some good advice.

With regard to this forum, I'd suggest you check out some of the general forums on MBWORLD.ORG, there's a bunch of VERY knowledgable people who love to help out a fellow MB owner.
Have fun and, I think you'll enjoy the exprience of owning a car that EVERYONE will want to talk to you about.
Do a search in this forum for "pulley."
Also, check out the benzworld.org SLK forum and do a search over there for "pulley".
I heard the SLK autos are faster becuase the standards are slow shifting, is this true and if so does it relate to the newer 6 speeds or my 1999 model?
I had a '99 SLK230 Sport with 5-speed manual and I asked a similar question when the 5-speeds came out and I think the most plausible answer I got is that the torque converter in the automatic gives it an advantage. The torque converter is able to effectively multiply engine torque for better acceleration off the line.
I've heard some conjecture that the reason the '99 5-speed manuals tested slower than the '98 automatics is because pretty much all of the magazines tested the '99s with the manual and the sport package. The sport package adds heavier 17-inch wheels and tires which will theoretically slow the car down slightly. However, I think time has proven that the real culprit IS the transmission as the 6-speeds didn't do any better.
