SLK/R170: Cold in SD and I have no heat (on my Feet)

Cold in SD and I have no heat (on my Feet)
It is cold here in SD and my 98 R170 will not direct heat on my cold feet.
I can operate the right had control knob and get warm air out of the defroster and the dash vents but none comes out on my feet (or more importantly on my wifes) in any position.
Blower control works - if i select the dash and floor position and then close the dash vents I hear the blower straining and air leaking in the vents but none comes out on our feet.
Any ideas?
