SLK/R170: What is this rear wheel noise?
I have an SLK 230 year 2000, recently the left rear wheel has started to make a noise. The noise sounds a little like a stiff wire brush rubbing on that thin sheet of metal that sits behind the disc. The noise occurs at exactly the same place once in a full rotation of the wheel. The noise is always present when driving where it sound more clicky. I’ve recently had new discs and pads but this hasn’t cured it. It also happens when the wheel is off. I got under the car today and thought that it could be coming from the other end of the shaft that drives the wheel but in the end I feel the sound is more likely coming from the wheel.
Does anybody have any ideas what this could be or any suggestion of further diagnostics to try and figure out what it is? I’d like to have an idea of what the issue is before sending it in to the garage as I think you can gather from my description I wont be doing the work myself but I do like to tinker!
Additional information, on the way to work today sat in very slow traffic i pulled the hand brake slightly and this seemed to dampen the sound quite a lot, so is it handbrake related?
Anyone have any ideas or directions to relavent information much appreciated
Thanks
Chris
