SLK/R170: 1999 SLK 230
HOT AIR BLEW OUT dash instead of AC.
Ran very rough...almost dying and NO POWER. Got good price on it...so took chance.
Here's what I've done so far....
1. Changed spark plugs (Bosche iridiums)
2. Changed air filter (K&N)
3. Replaced MAF sensor.
WOWOWOWOWOW...totally new ride...definately a little rocket ship with the tranny to "S".
4. Opened the duovalve, and cleaned it. Collant had penetrated all the way to the top of the coils. Cleaned a LOT OF build up/rust/deposits, re-installed everything.
Got cold AC for about 10 minutes...then warmer, warmer, HOTTTTTTT.
Okay, so the duavalve it bad---the coolant in the coils does a nice short trick

Ordered new one.
Here's the strange thing...started to get the coolant level light coming on...just once at first. Then went off. Checked coolant, proper level.
Temp gauge barely goes above 80.
Came on a second time, but went off within a minute.
Today on the way to work went on when I was going UP a hill, then shut off when I went down the same hill.
Air bubble because of the dual valve opening?
Also, how much coolant to add into the reservoir?
Thanks for the info...you folks are a plethora of info!!!!
Paid $7500 (138k miles)...came with no acceleration, check engine light on, hot air blowing in the vents, wail in front left brakes, and a top that stuck up or down.
So far....bent the guide bar in the back, roof fixed. $59 MAF sensor, $35 K&N air filter, $50 of Iridium Bosch plugs, check engine light off.
Ordered new dual valve, front rotors (zimmerman cross drilled) Akenobo sp?) ceramic pads, with shipping $549.
Think I've done pretty good so far...and mpg is north of 24 in combo driving.
