SLK/R170: WARNING!!! SLK230 is DANGEROUS!
The problem i noticed before having that accident was that the "tempomat" did not work and about two seconds before the crash the car turned on the yellow warning triangle that is located in the speedmeter.
The MB warranty did nothing for me. Do anyone know about any similar cases? Thanks.
i didnt think much of it at the time but after reading your post i do remember driving my SLK on the 55 freeway in S. california and i saw a yellow one in the other lane with black smoke coming out of the exhaust and the whole car shaking like hell! I was heading to the dealer to service my car and about a half hour after i got there, the yellow one pops up and the owner is frantic, shes yelling at the service guy blaming him for the car's problems. i dont know if this relates directly to your accident but its what i observed.
(Try it and you'll see what I mean, bend the key at the folding point while your ignition is on, and pull downward on the keyring-clip end of the key as though there was a bunch of keys on it)
MB do know about this, I read about it on a piece of service info at my dealership - from memory, it was relating to the M class (which has the same (older) key as the SLK)
