Car Phone Tray Replacement
Hi All,
I'm new here and looking for some advice. I have a 98 SLK230 and it still has the factory car phone in the dash. I've seen and heard that there are tray replacements for this. Does anyone know where I can buy one and how much I can expect to pay? Are they easy to install or am I going to need to take the center console out?
Thanks!

I have done the replacement, and there is a cubby available either from the dealer $$ or an auto salvage yard, I bought 1 on eBay $20
you need to take out a lot of stuff from the dash to get to the 4 screws that hold it in place
start at #16 http://www.buellwinkle.com/r170/dash4.htm then do 17, 18 that will expose the top 2 screws on the phone/ashtray
then #22, 23, and that will expose the bottom 2 screws, there are further instructions on how to remove the armrest section of the console.
If you take your time it should take about an hour to remove replace and put back the dash etc.
