SLK/R170: Transmission whine 1st thing in morning
It disappears, however, after driving less than a few hundred yards or so and doesn't reappear throughout the day.
Looking for a tech or someone with a similar issue to tell me whether I have a problem. The car runs fine otherwise and shifts excellently.
thanks
its not a problem.
however if you continue to start the car and force it to go fast before it has warmed up you may damage the engine/transmission.
its in the owners manual.
I had to order an owner's manual and it hasn't arrived yet, so there are quite a number of things about the car that I am unfamiliar with at this point.
Appreciate the help
All the services are up to date. Thanks. The noise was also not constant, but merely for the first few hundred yards when entering the roadway. The problem was resolved. It was stated by Leapyfish that the car needed to simply warm up briefly before driven and that it was stated as such in the owner's manual. My manuals are on the way, so I had no way of knowing.
I have, in fact, been letting the car warm up for approximately 3 minutes before driving away and the noise has been totally absent since then. The differential, transmission and other oil-servicable components are all silent and working well.
I was told that the supercharger can also whine quite loudly if the engine is placed under performance while still cold, which may have been what I was hearing.
thanks
