Question Replacing a Headlamp

So one of my headlights (headlamps) has burned out. Tomorrow I take screwdriver in hand and...what?

Do I purchase just a bulb, or a whole sealed headlight? Can I get it at an auto parts store or do I need to get it from the dealer? Is this a simple remove-some-screws from the headlight, swap out the old part for the new one, or is it more complicated?

Would appreciate your accumulated wisdom.

Hopefully, the answer to the riddle "how many slk owners does it take to change a light bulb" will be "one".

Thx!

It is actually quite simple. To replace the bulb you do not need to take the whole headlamp apart. There is a black plastic casing on the back of the headlamp. Just lift the tabs and it should pop right off. Then you will see the insides of the headlamp.

You will need to find which bulb is out. If I remember correctly, one is the high beam and the other is the normal headlight bulb. You will see two wires going into what looks like a knob (I dont know what else to call it). Pull it off and you will see the back of the bulb. Unhook what looks like a paper clip bent out of shape. I think to do that you push the clip forward so that it unhooks. ANd the bulb can be removed. Remember you cannot touch the bulb directly with your fingers. I wore my gloves the last time I change the bulb.

Hope this helps.

You either need H1 or H7 bulbs (I cannot remember which).

"Super white" replacement bulbs?

Anyone here ever heard of or used super white replacement head lamp before? From what I heard, the color is usually distorted and sometimes the bulb will blow and leave debris inside the headlamp compartment. I am thinking of purchasing a pair of super white, if anyone has any comments, suggestions or recommendations, it will be greatly appreciated!
