SLK cutting out, electrical problem?
Hi,
I have an issue with my SLK170 230 Kompressor year 2000 and would appreciate your help.
10 days ago my SLK cut out whilst driving I came to a stop all the dashboard light came on, the car was making whirring sound similar to fan running slowly but a bit more electrical sounding. I restarted the car and had no issues until today.
The car cut out again tonight this time turning the ignition key did nothing except produce the whirring sound, I had to get out and push the car, I received a slight electrical shock, when I got back into the car it started again and I made it home.
On the way home I was thinking about what I believe is an electrical fault and recalled that over the last few weeks I have been receiving an electric shock when I exit the car. I had 4 new tyres 5 or so weeks ago if that has any bearing.
Could I have an earth problem that would cause this? What else could it be? Any suggestions?
Thanks for any responses
Chris

SLK 230
Hi - glad to add to the mystery. I too have the same problem right now with my 2000 SLK 230. It is a royal PIA. There are some posts that suggest it is K40 relay. If you do a search of it you can read some of the advise given. I have not pulled the part, as suggested, however will attempt the repair this weekend.
Good luck and let me know if you find any thing which could better explain the issue we are having.

Chris,
I did the recommended repair today on the K40 Relay. Then did a excellent test drive today. Happy to report the all ops are normal. What a relief.
It was a post in our forum by Bazzle, dated 11-03-2006 at 11:25 PM. I printed out the info; however, it shortened the URL to the following:

This should get your started on finding it. I will look for it again also - and if I can find it I will forward said same.
The problem is from a relay which has bad soldered joints on the circuit board. All one is required to do is find the board, examine the underside to located the cracked solder, clean them and apply a new solder connection. If you can change a light bulb - you can handle this repair.
Good luck, and I will keep you informed. Bobby
