SLK/R170: Which one too buy ?

Which one too buy ?
Hi, im new here and i want some advice on the SLK regarding the choice of Gearbox.
I had a 1998 slk 230 automatic. I loved the car but i got in an accident with a lorry basically i was waiting for the red light to turn green when the lorry came from behind at a speed of 70 km/h according to the lorry driver and smashed me from behind. Lucky i didn't even get a scratch however the car got totally ruined and couldn't not be fixed so i got money from the insurance. Luckily i got more money then i paid for the car
So i want an SLK again cause i loved the car, now my problem is what do i buy?
I found 2 identical cars, almost the same kilometers both in excellent condition. interior is exactly the same, basically its exactly the same car only difference is the gearbox.
Now for the cars . Both are a 2001 SLK 230 kompressor facelift model. Now i don't know and cant decide which one to pick, automatic or manual?
I can drive both and it doesn't really bother me if its manual or automatic which is the issues cause i cant decide.
What i want to know is which one is better(better and better its up too each persons taste, but whats the difference in driving experience). What problems do they have, and is the clutch on the manual good and smooth as a smoothie or bitter and sour like a rotten apple ?
Please help me decide.

I have a SLK 200 Kompressor from 2002 with manual gearbox and I like the feel of shifting through gears and since it'a MB gearbox I wouldn't worry about clutch. I prefer manual gearboxes and I heard that slk's with manual gearboxes are a little faster than automatic ones.
Why don't you drive both and decide after that?
What kind of a gearbox did you had before the accident?
