R170 SLK230 Sport Lower Mesh Grill

I just bought my 2000 Mercedes SLK230 Sport 4 months ago and I was missing the passenger side lower mesh grill. I got a whole new set from Ebay and now want to know if I have to take the whole front spoiler off to put in the new ones?

Any help would be appreciated?

Lanny, my AMG front bumper inserts for 01-SLK320 can be just pushed in.
I found it in my owner manual.
Mine are aluminum about 1/8 in. thick (with drilled holes), 3 pieces.
Hope it will help.

2000 Mercedes SLK230 Front Bumper removal

Thanks for the update on my post! I actually attacked the project yesterday and it turned out I had to take the front bumper off and it was a kind of tricky at first but once I figured out the two middle nuts I had to take out it came off with a snap. The mercedes manual was not very good about showing or explaining taking it off. I will include pictures. The bumper had to be taken off to gain access to the middle grille since it contained 5 screws to hold it on, the outside pieces are just snapped or inserted in. The new lower grille pieces had to be affixed with the L-shaped brackets (supplied) and guess what no instructions. The grille pieces were nice but installation kit or brackets were lacking very much. I ended up stripping the paint off the brackets and molding or bending them so it would be somewhat be contoured to the bumper and grille pieces. Again thanks, it was nice to have someone answer my assistance!! I had hoped more people got on this forum. I know I will do more to assist once I learn more about my mercedes slk230.

2000 MB SLK230 Instructions to remove front bumper

Instructions to remove front bumper MB SLK 230 R170

1) Remove front grille
2) Remove headlight assemblies - *Note I installed halo/angel headlights so if you still have orginals just remove blinkers (pull tabs to slide forward)
3) Remove both lower bolts (10mm) on bottom of bumper near wheel.
4) Remove both bolts (10mm) on inside front (about 6 inches above the last two bolts you just remove which allows access to the nuts which connect bumper to front fenders.
5) Remove both bolts (10mm) which connect bumper to fenders
6) Remove both bolts (10mm) which hold the middle of the bumper (look at picture it will be the upper arrows)
7) Remove 4 bolts (8mm) to the underneath plastic engine pan to gain access to inner nuts
8) Remove both nuts (10mm) which hold the inside part of the bumper on
9) Careful when removing bumper off. Slowly slide out and then disconnect all electrical connections (I find easier to repeat when installing)

*** Bumper should be removed
