SLK/R170: Wanted used engine 230 K 2001 model
On the other hand, if i sell my car i have to pay extra 10.000$ for a used 6 speed SLK 230.
So I decided to buy a used engine and accesories of 230 K.
Can anybody help?
All opinions accepted. Thank you.
1. Does the $4000 include the labor to install the engine?
2. Long-term cost. You never know what kinds of things are going to go wrong during and after the installation.
3. Reliability. Things tend to go wrong after major engine swaps. For example, electrical connectors that get broken or loose, vaccuum lines, motor mounts, various wiring harness clips. Some cause immediate problems, some can lead to other problems.
4. Resale value of a car that doesn't have the original engine.
I think from a cost perspective, the difference between changing engines and just selling the car and buying a used SLK200K or SLK230K may be alot less than you think in the long term. But, if you still decide to go through with the swap, here are some things to check out:
1. Does the ECU come with the engine?
2. Does the cooling system (i.e. radiator) need to be upgraded for the 230K engine?
3. Does the fuel system (i.e. fuel pump, fuel filter) need to be upgraded for the 230K engine.
4. Will the gauges all work properly with the input from the sensors on the 230K engine.
