Tyres/Tires!
First posting to this forum, so apologies if this repeats a previous thread.
Would like to know what the forum regards as best tyres for the 230. The car is currently running on Dunlop SP2000s, and I'd like to try better if possible. Don't know if they're on OE item - can't seem to find anything on the web about it.
These tyres came last in Autocar's 1999 test of half a dozen high performance models (fitted to an Impreza), so perhaps there's better boots out there for the SLK. Unless of course the SP2000s perform better on a 230............
Only had the car for 8 months, odometer now got to 34k miles, so suspect these particular tyres aren't the originals.
Any thoughts or experiences (good or bad!) most welcome
Thanks
Jim

Before you can decide, you need to set your priorities. Think about what you want in terms of dry traction, wet traction, winter traction, ride comfort, noise, tread life, etc.
Check out www.tirerack.com
There's lot's of info on specific brands and models, including comparison charts like this

Thanks for the replies - the comparison chart is very useful. Probably going to try Goodyear Eagle F1s for the rear; also got a very good price of £82 ea fittted & bal at a local garage, which is cheaper than the best mail order on the net!

I've got an idea. I believe it's a combination of the following
1. Those are the three brands that M-B installed at the factory.
2. Those are the only tires that M-B tested on the car.
3. Those three brands paid M-B to be on that short list (probably by selling MB their OEM tires at a VERY low price).

I am using Preilli P7000 and I am very happy with them.
especially after they have been worn in (better traction).
not too bad in the rain for a performance tire. Nice tread pattern.
I used P-Zero before, but with those, if it is raining, don't even think about driving out with them.
