SLK/R170: Help - Car won't start

Help - Car won't start
Can't start the car today. It is as if the alarm system has disabled the starter or the clutch interlock is out to lunch. Anyone ever have this problem? If so, any advice would be appreciated.
The battery is OK as the lights do not dim when you try to start the car.

No, I didn't try that. Thanks for the advice.
BTW, after I pushed it out of the garage in preperation for the tow, I turned the car on and manually locked and unlocked the doors. Amazingly, the car started.
I keep your idea in my back pocket for the next time (I hope it never comes).

Once before my 94 C220 wouldn't start, and the strangest part was, when I locked/unlocked the doors it seemed to lag (the actual locks), but after I unlocked/locked a couple times it worked! Anyway, that has only happened once with me. I am looking into buying a SLK320, Boxster or Jag XK8, any suggesstions?!

Other than this one problem (which hasn't recurred since) the car is great. I personnally don't like jags and think that the boxter is overpriced. I'd still recommend the SLK. Good luck.

Got our SLK to start
We have a 1999 SLK230 (Japanese market RHD model), and after fumbling with the remote today, it first wouldn't lock remotely; then when we came back to it, it wouldn't start at all.
Tried to jump with battery cables, no joy. Got our mechanic to look at it, found it was not the starter. He also checked all electrics, and finally decided the alarm had locked it up.
Online I found several suggestions from various places. One of those I tried first...with the key in the driver's side door, lock and unlock the car manually five times consecutively.
After doing that, the car started perfectly.
