SLK/R170: car wont lock!

2001 SLK230 Kompressor
car wont lock!
I have a 2001 SLK230 Kompressor. When I press the lock/unlock button on my key fob the car lights flash... but the doors and trunk don't lock/unlock, and the horn doesn't beep like its supposed to. If I press the door lock button in the center console they will lock/unlock just fine. Any ideas?

My particular experience may be different, but if I cracked a door or the trunk, it would lock... but if that door or trunk was closed immediately after, they would re-unlock... if i waited a minute it would not re-unlock...
not really worth spending a lot of effort wondering 'why', either dry out the module and remove corrosion, or get new/used module. There are plenty of threads on the subject.
