'04 SLK Special Edition info now on MBUSA's website
This should clear up the speculation from the previous thread:
availability of 2004 SLK
The US Special Edition is different from the European SLK Special Edition and Final Edition, but does include some of the same Equipment.
Here are the features of the '04 SLK Special Edition for the USA according to the website:
- Brushed aluminum interior trim (for SLK230 only, SLK320 retains Calyptus wood).
- Sport seats with Charcoal Nappa leather upholstery
- Leather-trimmed roll bars
- Chrome-capped gearshift knob with "Special Edition" logo
- Trunk-mounted 6-disc CD changer
- Silver-colored gauges
- Staggered 17" twin-7-spoke alloy wheels
- Silver-painted grille
- Body-colored AMG rear spoiler
- Special Edition badging on front fenders
The package costs $1600 extra for the SLK230 or SLK320, but it's not available on the SLK32 AMG. It's not available with the Sport package but other options are available.
Available exterior colors on the special edition are Brilliant Silver, Pewter Silver, Alabaster White, Black, and Magma Red. Metallic paint charge still applies.

BTW, the photo on the MBUSA website is a photochopped picture of the European Final Edition. They chopped it to add the amber front signal lenses and the wheels. However, the picture doesn't have the AMG rear spoiler, and it does have chrome trim on the A-pillar. You can even see some lines on the lower front bumer from the reflection of the Euro license plate on the original photo.
I think it's funny that they photochopped a picture instead of just doing a photo shoot, but I know it's cheaper. The '99 SLK sales brochure has several pics where they took pics from the '98 brochure and added the new radio antenna into them. There are also a few that they missed...
