Question AMG replicas- please help!

Hi everyone, I"m planning to get 17" AMG replica wheels here in Australia, as the factory ones are WAY overpriced.

They're pretty much exactly the same as factory, albeit without the AMG lettering

However, I don't think the rear (245) wheels have the extra dish like the factory ones.

Anyway, does anyone have pics of cars with the front AMG wheels on the back, so that all 4 wheels have the same amount of lip? Does it look weird?

The wheel I'm after btw, is the AMG 5 spoke 107 on Tirerack, ie. the one in the picture.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have a photo, but I've seen SLKs with the OEM 7.5Jx17ET37 AMG rims on the front and rear and they look just fine.

In the package you want to buy, are the rear wheels actually wider than the fronts? Usually, the replica wheels are the same size front and rear. I've seen 17-inch replica AMG wheels in 2 sizes, but they've always been offered in sets of 4 of the same size.

1) 7.5Jx17ET35 front and rear. This looks like having the genuine AMG front wheels on all 4 corners, so the rear dish is not as deep as the factory AMG rear wheels.

2) 8.0Jx17ET35 front and rear. This looks more like having the genuine AMG rear wheels on all 4 corners, so the front dish is deeper than the factory AMG front wheels.

BTW, if the front and rear wheels will be the same width, then you may want to consider mounting 225/45R17 tires on both the front and the rear to balance handling and allow you to rotate your tires.

Thanks Brian for that info. No, the rear wheels aren't actually wider. I may go with having all 4 with 225/45/17 so I can rotate the tyres and get more life out of them.

Hope the non-staggered tyres won't look too unusual, but I trust your judgement- thanks

Hi Andrew, nice to see someone from Australia

No, that's not my SLK unfortunately It's someone else's I got from the www.slk32.com.

I don't have an AMG kit. My car is stock standard, save for the AMG replicas I'll be getting with Continental Contisport Contact 225/45/17 on Tuesday.

I don't think the door handles came painted until the car was facelifted in 2000. Nevertheless, I'm sure you can get them painted at any body shop.

As for polished roll bars, since you're in Sydney, perhaps you can talk to Milan Mitrovic at TCCA Tuning in Artarmon. He is an importer of Carlsson and other European tuning/appearance products- I'm sure he would know where to source them from, Carlsson or otherwise.

Any pics of your car?

Jules
