HELP P0221...Throttle Position Sensor

I can't find anything about a Throttle Position Sensor for a 2002 SLK 230. Any help out there?

I also could not find out much about the TPS for my 2001 E320. In most cases, the TPS fails either at idle or WOT, or there is a problem in the wiring harness that needs to fixed. I took a quick look at my wiring harness and there are not any parts of the harness near the TPS that get much bending or movement, so I opted to replace the TPS and see if it goes away. $130 TPS is cheaper than having a mechanic diagnose the issue. Part should arrive today. I'll let you know how it goes.

P0221 TPS / BAS / ESP -- Altitude Sickness?

I had the ESP / BAS light go on last weekend in my 2001 E320. I was driving from San Diego to Big Bear Lake. The light came on and there was suddenly no throttle response. Pulling over and restarting allowed me to get to our destination, though it happened about 12 times. There was no correlation to going around a turn, on throttle, off throttle, braking, etc. At one point, we were at steady speed, downhill, and straight when it light up. Tried to think of what might cause the issue and came up empty.

After arriving, I checked and there was code P0221. I had som MAF cleaner in the trunk and cleaned the throttle assembly as well as connections in hope there was a short from built up grime. Disconnected battery and did throttle reset. Did not drive for about 33 hours.

On way home made better progress - only four restarts. Last one was just short of the first on the way up ... about little ways past the 6,000 foot elevation sign (that made the light in my head go on). The summit is about 8,400 feet and all the problems were above 6,000 feet. Remaining 150 plus miles home were trouble free and no repeat in the 3 days since return.

Is the TPS pressure sensitive? There was mention of in this or another thread of replacing the TPS at about $130 cost - is that the pedal assembly? There also seems to be a TPS that is part of of the throttle assembly (the part I cleaned), or is that more of an actuator?

I think my problem has resolved for now, but seek confirmation that there is a pressure sensitive component in the system so I can replace it or, at least, know what to expect if I drive at high altitude again.

Thanks.

I hope that your issue is resolved.

I have replaced the TPS (under the hood). My car stalls when coasting / decelerating around 40mph.

If you discover any more info, please post again.
