2000 -2001 AMG bodykit for 99 SLK

Hello again !!

I am really glad to see that the server is ok now. Thanks again to the people who spend their time& energy for this great organization.

Well...where were we? never ending questions as usual

My AMG bodykit has just arrived as i insisted on the new version of it. (not froggies for the 98 - 99 prelift...the ones for 2000 and upper models)

Its not the major problem but some parts were missing
( i ordered American version bumpers and there are no signal lamps for the front ..i thought they were in the package .Also the front corner protective bands were missing for the front bumper and long one for the rear.) I asked those parts and my friend in germany will help me about that..

The problem is actually my obsession with the new AMG bodykit .
The parts seems to be ok with the dimensions except the front lampwasher holes for my 99...
AMG has bigger space for the cap of lightwashers
I attached the pic of mine and the AMG bumper .
Can i change the moving lightwasher cap( sorry i dont know its proper name)or do i have to remove the whole system???
Please i need your constructive ideas...
I am really unhappy about it , i even thought to close the holes before painting the bumpers and delete the lightwashing system but it should be the last option

Also i wanna know if i am in a deep s** by ordering this kit for my 99...other boo boos?

Thanks

Interesting. I would never have thought about the headlamp washer hole being a different shape. I have no idea if the little cover can be swapped, but in the worst case, you would have to modify it yourself with a parts from a salvage yard. Have you looked your existing headlamp washer mechanism? How is that little cover attached?

Not sure whether the corner protector strips were supposed to come with it or not. Seems odd that you got only one for the rear bumper. I would guess that the front comes without them since you ordered the US version. You can always use the European strips and it will be easier since you don't have wiring for the American lamps.

I'll bet you can get somebody in the US to sell you the front ones cheap with signal lamps cheap since some Americans have swapped them with European versions. If you can't find anybody here, check on the Benzworld.org forum.

Do you mean the SP1 package here in the US of the 2000+ facelift package?

NP

EDIT - That looks like the front bumper from a 2002+ SLK32 AMG model.

Yes exactly SP1 ....
There is no single american version here ...All european version..and few AMG's .
I am sure that you understand me , the feeling of being the only ..
only US version im proud with that.
There may be some problems in detailed parts like the one i mentioned above but i will install that version to my 99.
(I will make it fit whatever it takes..
I already bought the kit but i am waiting for some other missing parts to arrive.

Actually its a marketing strategy .... They want to keep the both bodykit models in the market.I am sure there are some little differences and maybe i will face some more problems while installing but its not really a big problem since the main dimensions are the same.
(Why do i have to pay thousands for the older AMG bodykit version??)

If you have detailed information about the bodykit installation please share with me..I will take the car to the garage but they never installed an AMG to a 99 kSLK before.
(They fix ferraris and porsches , good quality of workmanship)
I think no one tried this before

Hello Brian ,

That little cover seems like its attached to the bumper with a moving spring -like mechanism..i cant see much but i can move the cover with myfinger , but its really hard to keep it open ..lol
Its better to see it after removing the bumper.
I ordered the bumper signals and asked for the strips to the Germany.
I hope to receive these parts soon.

My standard strips are totally different . There is no strips on the front corners, just one long single piece since its the prelift version.
And surprisingly there are two strips on the back bumper corners which are totally different than the amg version.
I really didnt examine the 2001 version, i am sure their strips will fit to this version of AMG bkit.
(Here i attached a pic for the rear .)
Thanks for the help and support Brain , i hope i wont face any more problems.

""If there are any other amg freaks who succeeded to fit sp1 to a 99 please share some info""

Cheers
