SLK/R170: BOSE amp
Does anyone have any instructions how I could get access to the amp?
The reason I ask this is because I want to check whether the amp has RCA inputs, as I would prefer to wire up my new head unit to the amp that way.
cheers

If I recall correctly, you can access the amp by pulling back the carpet starting from as far up under the dash as possible. The carpet is just tucked under the edge of the kick panels and the trim on the transmission tunnel. When you pull the carpet back, you'll see a big piece of styrofoam and the amp is underneath it. That's all I remember.
Is the amp directly underneath the styrofoam sheet?
I had a look under that but didn't notice an amp there. I didn't really look too hard bcoz I was in a bit of a rush.
I'll have a closer look with a torch next time.

The question is why do you want to? Inputs to the amp are on the conenctor at the head unit. There's no need to run another set of wires from the amp to the new head unit - tap in at the head unit end.

The car does have Bose speakers, so I assumed that it has the Bose amp in the package aswell. Actually I do remember it to have had the Bose upgrade factory fitted. Could the amp be elsewhere?

I love pulling things apart and trying to put them back together again

though I tend not to venture too far nowadays, My previous car was pretty much torn down completely and put back together again. Some parts never made it back on, which is why I didn't bother looking underneath that panel.
So, the current head unit connects to the Bose amp via high level inputs (speaker wires).
I just pulled out the head unit and found that there is no need to wire up rear speaker wires. Only the front speaker wires need to be wired.
But I still need to know where you run a wire from the battery terminal to the head unit as my head unit needs a power source straight from the battery's positive terminal.

I have an Alpine amp which has a 4 x 60W internal V-drive amp. This amp needs a fused power source straight from the battery terminal.
I think most internal amps can run from the standard radio power source as described on the link on the slk32.com site.
thanks anyway

I was planning on putting in new head unit also.
