Has anyone installed a remote car starter? I am looking to do this for my SLK230 and was wondering what all of your thoughts ansd opinions on this would be? Also, does the slk have the security RF key thingy that some BMWs have, which could prevent most remote starters from working.

 

I haven't installed one, but yes the SLK does have an RF 'thingy'. I've seen options on some remote starters to bypass this (using an RF coil mounted near the ignition switch), at least for GM cars. Don't know if there is a version that works with the Mercedes system.

Looks I need to tromp around in the snow to start the car.

 

It can be bypasseed, I am getting one installed next week. I am also getting infared sensors installed so I can leave the top down sometimes in safer areas. My installer is also going to attempt to install a "window roll down" type relay that will put my top down from the remote after I autostart

I got the alarm installed, I need to go back and have the top hooked up. Its been so cold lately I never put the top down so I have been putting off the project.
