SLK/R170: Advice on 98 slk230 with just 39k miles

Advice on 98 slk230 with just 39k miles
Ok, you have a mercedes noob here so be gentle please!
My car is a 2005 cl55amg and is flat out the most fun I have ever had in a car, sold a 911 to buy this and dont regret it one iota!
But the question in hand...looking at a 98 slk230 with 39k original miles for my daughter. However it has been badly neglected even though very low miles and has a number of cosmetic issues which do not worry me overmuch.
But the biggie so far is the roof, when you try to open it, the windows go down but just the left hand side of the trunk tries to lift, which then gets stuck obviously...any ideas? The car is dirt cheap so I would have plenty of room to spend too fix but what are the danger areas of these and specificaly the present roof retract problem?
