SLK/R170: 6 speed

6 speed
Hello,
Visiting here from the Crossfire forum.
A number of the 6 speed Crossfire owners have been experiencing a problem with the car popping itself out of first gear. All have ruled out driver error, and it has come close to causing some accidents, as you might imagine.
Chrysler handles it in two steps...first a mysterious 'fix' that most folks generally say takes care of the problem for a few hundred miles. The problem invariably comes back, and with some pressure most are able to get an entirely new transmission.
Have MB owners experienced anything similar?
Thanks,
TB

I have only driven my 6-speed SLK for about 1000 miles, but other than sitting at a stoplight, I don't think my hand has ever been off the shiftknob while the car was in 1st! Mine has never popped out of gear in 1st, or any other gear, and I haven't seen the problem discussed on this forum. Sounds like it may be a problem specific to the Crossfire.

Thanks for the feedback so far. It may be specific to the Crossfire. Posted here just in case...as you know the motor (Mercedes 3.2), transmission, rear end, and some suspension are identical to those in the SLK, with some suspension bits from the CLK.
