Hi,

I have a '02 SLK with the 6sp. tranny. I like it quite alot. Be prepared to be rowing the gears quite a bit, as the gear ratios are quite short until you get to about 3rd gear or so.

The clutch engagement could be a little more progressive for my taste, it's a little bit on the "it's on or it's off" mode for me.

I'd say try and find one and drive it if you can, there isn't a whole lot of foot room to be mashing all the pedals, but I'm 6' and 265lb and I can get the job done.

Hope that helps.

Later.

manual slk

I have the 6sp, and its not a great shifter. I had alot of problems with a too high tranny fluid level, causing the gears to not shift when cold. Now its fixed, but shifts still slower than other manuals I have owned.
Having that said I would get this car in manual again without thinking for a second. For me, even a ba shifter is still better than automatic (at least for a fun car).

I have the 6-speed in my SLK and I had it in my coupe as well. It's a little tight when it's new but after about 5,000 miles I really think it feels much better. I had the same experience with my coupe so I don't think it's my imagination. It's not to best manual out there (S2000, Miata) but I think it will last for a long long time. Because they use the same transmission for the C320, and SLK320 I would think that it's a little less stressed in cars with the 2.3 or 1.8. Just my thoughts.

I had a '99 SLK230 with 5-speed manual. Overall, I didn't like it. It was difficult to shift very fast. Both the clutch and the shifter were much less than ideal. I drove the 6-speed and it wasn't much better, plus you had to shift it more often.

i agree with Brian_R170 , and the clutch is too long , pedals' position is not good , make me to have a hard time to do heel&toe .......
