SLK/R170: SLK 230 dies or won't start

SLK 230 dies or won't start
I originally posted this in the CLK, I apologize...
Got a problem with my wife's 2000, 230... she'll go to start the car, and turn the key to the "start" position and no juice to the starter, all dash lights stay lit... headlights do not dim... or she'll be driving along and the engine just stops... all dash lights light come on, like the key was turned to "run" without going to the "start" position... I know MB likes to run everything thru the 5 or 6 circuit boards on the passenger side under the hood. My question is this... is there a source for Electrical Circuit schematic for the 2000 SLK230.
The car is 17 years old, but only has less than 100K miles... way too soon to junk, but I can't have her driving it.. when the engine might die on you at 80 mph on the freeway.
