Pics of Car + Engine mod question
Just wanted to say hello,
Ive been an SLK owner since 1999 and have a 5 speed Slk 230.
I have heard about computer chips to enhance the performance of the engine, but have never seen any official docs on one for this car. Does anyone have any information on that? Any thoughts on Pros and Cons would be appreciated as well.
Thanks in Advance
Attached are 2 links to pics of my car
1999 Bumblebee 5 speed,
I think I have a pretty unique combo in this one.

Lately there has been a number or posts regarding Upsolute chip at this SLK forum.
Suggest you check it out. Personally, I shy away from modifying my MB in anyway that will affect the factory warranty.
More often than not any real HP gain is minimal and engine reliability diminished. You paid a premium for your MB with German engineering, built and reliabilty, so why tamper with it any further.
If you wanted a faster MB, you should have bought an AMG version!

Unfortunately AMG did not make an Engine modified SLK in 1999.
So it would have been a little difficult for me to purchase one then.
As far as the current AMG, I am shying away from them because I prefer a stick shift to an automatic. Not having a clutch takes away a bit of the driving experience for me. I drove one recently, and it was fast and handled nice, but I wasnt sold on the additional body parts. I like the clean look of my 1999 and I much prefer it's 5 speed to the current 6 speed.
So that is why I am looking for some mods.
I did talk with Brabus in CA. They were very honest and wanted to make sure I knew exactly what I would be gettting for my money. I was impressed with their attitude.

Engine mods
I have "souped-up" my 230K by exchanging the crankshaft pulley for a bigger one (this increases the speed at which the compressor spins, hence boost and power/torque), a chip to help the engine with the increased boost (from 0.4 to measured 0.8 bar!), and a complete new exhaust system (Supersprint header and muffler). I am very happy with these changes, the car is significantly faster and certainly more responsive at (para)legal speeds without consuming more gas or being less driveable. The total cost was about 4K. Some good addresses for kits are:
Vaeth.com, Kleemann.dk, Oberklasse.com, Carlsson.com
For chips: GIACusa.com
You will certainly need a good tuning shop to install everything.
I went to PES-tuning.com (close to Philadelphia), they did a really good job.

I also found the following in my search
http://www.chip-tuning.com/usa/fzg/u...esslk230k.html
Thanks for your replies. I am going to do some more research and then make a decision. I live just outside of Philly, so the pointer to PES-tuning.com is highly appreciated.
