Another 1998 SLK 230 question
My father has a 1998 model with 25,000 miles. I drive almost 30,000 miles a year, and would want this car for at least three years. Our concern is that it won't hold up to that many miles without expensive repairs. It has caused him few if any problems (nothing major). We just wanted the opinion of anyone that has driven this model as many miles as I will. I know you can never know for sure but would like as much of any informed opinion as possible.

I've had my 98 since last May, and bought the car with about 35,000 miles... Today, the car has 74,000 miles without going once into the shop, with the exception of getting a new alternator, which in a way was my fault.
The engine in the 98 SLK has been used by Mercedes-Benz ever since 1994, and is one of the most reliable engines by Mercedes.
Have fun with the car!

Ditto to that!
I bought my 99 230 with 26k miles in 2002 and have since put about 27k miles on the odometer without any hassles. Routine maintenance, responsible driving and commonsense should make the car last you a life time. These cars are built to go the distance - I plan to have mine for a long time; I just can't get over the sex appeal of it (and neither can the ladies!)
Just my 2 cents!
