SLK/R170: Iggy sys gurus.. no crank causes?
I wanted to test crank it dry before buttoning it up and nothin'!
Not even a click.
So far I have read that there are the obvious things to look at regarding the starter circuit... and then some not so obvious things that may be causing the lack of function...
Is it true that the following will prevent the starter circuit from sending the start signal? :
no fuel pressure
no coolant
not waiting 30min to try cranking after long period of battery disconnect
keyfob transponder misalignment
ecm/pcm?
Am I missing anything stoopid?
Thanks in advance. So far this thing is really fun to work on.
So these things don't like to start if the transmission is actually not in park or neutral.
The shift selector was in park, the display on the dash showed park... but the selector engagement rod going to the actuator on the transmission was just dangling loose. don't really understand why the "mechanic" that had it before me felt the need to disconnect... but that was the answer. Got it reconnected and fastened with a shiny new e-clip... placed the selector back in park... and vroooom. Fired up on the first revolution.
To recap...
My own research has proven that these things WILL start with no oil, no coolant...
The starter kill does not care.
It is mandatory that the actual gear select actuator on the transmission be in either park or neutral, and the selector itself be in either park or neutral.
