SLK/R170: SLK retractable roof does not go down!

SLK retractable roof does not go down!
Just got a 97/98 Silver SLK230K with AMG wheel and body kit yesterday. I could not open the retractable roof top despite the button is blinking. I could not hear any mechanical movement at all. I tried to move the button forward for closing the top and I could hear the mechanical movement.
What could be wrong? Could it be something inside the trunk that disable the function or there is/are some sensor problem?

The roof WILL NOT operate if the button is blinking. Usually this occurs if the retractable cover in the trunk has not been pulled out. If the cover has been pulled out check the microswitch on the right rail. Hope this helps

If the cover is in place the next thing you want to check it the battery charge. If the battery is getting old it may not be able to supply enough power to run the vario roof.
That is an unusual thing to happen though.
It is more likely that the hydraulic pressure is low and that can be resolved by your local dealer.

Thank you so much guys. It was the cover which was not placed correctly. Everything is fine now.
The new SLK 200K and 320 are coming to town in a couple of month in HK and I am so tempted to get one. SLK200K is selling at US$58K and SLK320 for $70K (tax is very expensive over here).
However, I guess the former is a bit under power so the latter should be the way to go(have to save more money).
