SLK/R170: Replacing battery in Mercedes 1999 SLK230.

Replacing battery in Mercedes 1999 SLK230.
I need to replace the battery on my 1999 SLK230, which I got bought just a few month ago. If I just disconnect the old one and install the new one, is is going to affect the electronic settings in the car?
Would I have to reprogram anything?

I read some blogs that say they had no issues when replacing the battery, other then needing the radio code, but I have read lots of other horror stories that scare me of not just touching the battery, but even just looking at it
The manual for my 1999 SLK230 simply says that "when removing and connecting the battery, always make sure that all electrical consumers are off and the key is in the steering lock position 0".
So it does not sound like a big deal, but some posts even say to never leave the key in the ignition when replacing the battery. So not sure what to believe. The manual, I guess?
