Question about the slk320?

Im not very well versed in my knowledge on the slk and it's generations(I'm more centered around the the sedans and larger coupes, ecpecialy the cls) and I have been seeing a few slk320s around my area that are badged as AMG and a few that don't have the AMG badge but I don't think that the 320 has an AMG engine in it. Am I wrong about that or what?

edit: if they are a true AMG then why are some of them badged and some not. Thanks for helping me expand on my Mercedes knowledge, I always love to learn.

Thanks a lot, this is some great info and I learned some new things. So I guess all the 320s I'm seeing with the amg badge are just the sport package that someone badged as an amg just as I thought.

Only SLK32 is an AMG (with AMG engine). the 230 and 320 are not, but may have some "AMG" wheels with the sport package. no badge though

yeah that's what I thought so these people are just badging their car for the status I guess. Hate people like that they don't really buy these great cars for the heart, soul, and history behind the three point star just for the status symbol.

Happens a lot. I recall the W124 Hammer done by AMG before MB absorbed them and guys would by aerokits and just badge away.
The most recent guy I called out on Autotrade had a W204 C300 4Matic and he put a Brabus Aerokit on it, AMG style after market wheels and stuck an AMG badge on the trunk - right beside the 4Matic badge. The W204 C63 AMG would tear the 4Matic in the regular W204s apart in base configuration to say nothing of my perforrnance packaged car or the 507.
