SLK/R170: buying a rebuilt 2000 SLK230
I found a 2000 SLK230 AMG package that currently has 75k miles and got rear end collision (replaced rear bumper and trunk).
Now, how would I know it if has M111.973 or 983 engine? What are the known problems other than Hydraulic for the convertible?
edit: based on the mirror housing, this is pre-facelift
The mechanic who fixed the car says he replaced the hydraulics but one of them started leaking and the rear windows don't want to go down always.
He listed it for 3500USD with rebuilt title, manual. This is for my wife, who is learning to drive the car for the first time.
I always wanted to get a manual, she likes convertible, we both like 2 seat car (Married on Nov 2017) and she doesn't have any opinion about transmission.
What are your thoughts on this, is it worth spending my time and money? Since rebuilt voids any warranty ( not that it is still under warranty 18years old ) will they honor any recalls or such? Was the convertible hydraulic system ever recalled because it always fail?
How about the upholstery etc., will Mercedes bother to honor those parts etc?
Thanks for your patience.
