Question New Member with a question

I'm considering buying a 98-2000 SLK230 depending on what deal I can get. Can present owners clue me in as to what problems there may be with these years. I'm an old, retired guy and I really don't want to have the car in the garage all the time. I just want to have fun driving it around town and on trips.

I've had my early 1998 SLK (mfg 02/97) for over 5 years and just sold it because I bought a new 2003 SL 500 (Launch edition).

No major power train/tranny problems--no roof problems---BUT, after 4 years a bunch of annoying and expensive petty electrical problems as:

Taillight assemblies melt internally, usually after the brake lights have been on for a long time such as at a train crossing. This causes the bulb to stop working, but the bulb is not bad, the whole taillight has to be replaced.

Bulbs in the climate control unit had to be replaced

Electric seat heater switch conrol became defective

Radio display panel (station frequencies, etc) went blank!

Gasoline "vapor management" component(s) had to be replaced.

I've never been stranded or had a serious on the road problem-
