Paint Problem On the SLK
I test drove a 2001 SLK 320 today. Really nice car, but in the walk around I noticed several rust spots, front fender near the headlight coming up throu the paint, back of front wheel well, back of rear wheel well. Does the SLK have a rust/paint problem? I owned a 1998 E300 (W210) and rust was a problem in those cars due to Mercedes trying a new paint process. Supposedly the rust just came up throu the paint and there was nothing that you could do to prevent it. The SLK was assembled during that same time period. Is that what I am seeing or did I come across a poorly maintained SLK today?
Thanks in advance!

I have a 2001 Slk230 and yes they have a paint problem. I was told by insurance adjuster that it is in fact due to experimental paint process. My clear coat has pealed entirely and many rust spots from inside out. I have shopped around for new paint jobs and they want more then I paid for the vehicle to fix the rust problems and repaint. Don’t waste your money. Hope this helps.
