SLK/R170: Hello! and help with emblems
I've been browsing for a while. Great site and a great find.
Gotta quick question about emblems (or badging as some say)
First what are the specs for badging on a 98 SLK? I know some years have Kompressor across the back right, other years have it on either front side fenders. Some say sport. Is that a year specifc thing?
Also I think there was a mixup on my SLK lettering. Mine says "230 SLK" all of the ones I've seen say "SLK 230". The ordering of mine in retro (280 SEL etc.) but something tells me that wasn't intentional (probably after a trunk repaint). Maybe I'm wrong, but it's the only one I've seen like it.
And lastly any ideas on where to find badges? I've found plenty of AMG emblems on ebay, but I'm not going for that (at least until I find rims to back it up at the very least). I am trying to avoid the high price of labor and parts from the dealer, but if I gotta I gotta. seems too pricey for a stick on piece.
thanks

Nice to have someone informed to give good feedback. Any idea how much those 3 emblems would cost me? labor to install?
I am assuming that they are like any other car emblem, double stick tape.

mbtech208 is correct that the sport package was not available in the North America until the '99 model year, although the AMG Styling package was available in other markets as early as December 1996.
Somebody definitely installed your badge incorrectly when the trunk was resprayed. I really don't know what the badge costs, but my guess is about $40.
I've got a 99 slk230 with the factory AMG sport package. These have the SLK 230 (left side looking from rear) and Kompressor (right side looking from rear) on the rear trunk lid and sport on the front side fenders.
The base vehicle had the Kompressor on the front side fenders and the slk 230 on the rear trunk lid.
I remember reading an article about the slk that mentioned the above as well.
