Roof stopped functioning as it was lowered.

Hi
I had set aside yesterday to repair the roof top actuator but my roof stopped functioning just as my boot had reversed opened. I released the pressure by turning the brass screw one full turn counter clockwise and then manually opened the roof so that I can remove the headliner and gain access to the lock actuator.
I have decided to replace the failed gasket by drilling a 1/4" hole into the body of the unit, pulling out the locking c-ring and installing the new gasket.

My first question is how do I get the boot to close please? Because the Hydraulics opened it, it has remained in that position and will not move.
My 2nd question is in regards to the actions I have taken so far. Does it sound like I have done everything correctly so far and I am on the right track or am I overlooking somthing important?

Thank you in advance for your time.
