SLK/R170: Rear running lights

Rear running lights
I have a 2003 slk32 amg. The right rear running light has never had a bulb in it because the knock out where bulb would go is Still intact , never removed from factory . Is this right. I believe there is no power going to it either

If there is no bulb, it means it was intended to be a reflector not a light.
I believe the front side marker lights up, but the rears are reflectors, because the tail light wraps around serving as a side marker.

SLK230 '98
No bulb on the right
I found the same thing on my '98 SLK230. No bulb on the right, but one on the left. After I looked into it I found the this is a rear fog light, not a running light. There are the normal night time lights when I turn the lights on. When pull the light switch out to the first position the front fog lights come on, when I pull it out to the second the one rear fog light on the left comes on. This is to make it easier for people behind you to see you. There is only one so people don't think it is your break lights.
