Arrow (2002 slk320) Info on installing Navigation, custom headunit, radar detector + jammer

I am going to give my baby (2002 slk320 with sports package) some renovation. Ever since I purshased the awesome machine I have been yearning for some GPS navigation as I have a very bad sense of direction. I have looked at placing it in different places, but after seeing the positioning in the slk32 website I am almost sold. Here are the mods that I must install on my car :
Radar Jammer (Escort Shifter ZR3)
Radar detector (passport sr1)
Navigational unit (so far alpine as seen on slk32)

I would like to have the following :
Dvd Player
New headunit
Ability to play music through my ipod

Now for the laser detector I have decided on the following installation:
http://www.slk32.com/pages/passportSR1/sr1.html
For the jammer I am on my own but I will get the local shop to figure out something good for me
These are the only 2 things I have decided on. There are currently 3 configurations possible. The first one I have seen lurking on these boards by slk320 and it is pretty cool, but I am probably not going to go for it as it blocks the controls on the dash including the AC. He has an alpine screen, the one that flips up and can be stored inside the dash. It has dvd / nav / everything. My idea is to put that same alpine deck but where the cup holders used to go, that way it is not always out in the open, and this makes it so that I won't have to install a new headunit, however the installation for this does not look to be very cost effective, and no matter how much I would like a dvd player I would also like some money left so I can afford gas My current setup is looking like this :
Install the Navigational unit as seen on http://www.slk32.com/pages/navigation/navi.html
Install the headunit as on
http://www.slk32.com/pages/radioupgr...ioinstall.html
Sacrifice the Dvd player, however because I am installing a new headunit there should be an auxilary jack which will allow me to connect my ipod. Now here are my questions to the people on this board :
- Is my current setup good
- Do you think I am doing too much modification of the car ? I do not want to the resell value to fall or for people to think it's any less of a luxury benz, and definately don't want to void the warranty even though there isn't much time left on it
- Is the Escort Shifter illegal to operate in California ?
- Is it a good idea to have both a detector and jammer ? The jammer only cuts the range of the laser so I'll have some time to slow down from the detection, at least that's how I see it.
- Does the alpine navigational unit as seen on slk32.com have the ability to play dvd's ?
*******- I currently have the dealer installed cd changer, and I want to confirm although it uses all this fiber optic bull**** it will still work with the majority of systems out there. I really don't want to lose the 500 or so dollars I got the dealer to add it on for.
- Does anyone think adding a nav unit and headunit is going overboard ?

Thanks for all the help / suggestions / feedback. I will take my time with making a decision and will definately sketch out layouts before I atempt anything / take it in to the shop to have it done. Right now I don't think I want to DIY and risk messing up my car. I look forward to the finished product so I can really enjoy my slk the way it was meant to be enjoyed, and appreciate any input people could provide. I will definately provide pics of before and after

***EDIT****
I just found some new info on the web, it seems alpine has an attachment which allows the ipod to be connected and controlled directly from the headunit, so I will probably be buying an alpine headunit.
