SLK/R170: My Mercedes Experience Has Not Started Well
I learned Monday night that the car simply doesn’t like to be submerged in six feet of water. Nothing works anymore. What is up with that?
Actually, my new pride and joy got caught in the parking lot from Tropical Storm Gaston. Richmond, VA got 12” of rain in a couple of hours. By the time I saw what was happening in the parking lot, the rush hour streets were clogged with stalled cars, and there was nothing I could do but move it to the highest point in the fenced parking lot.
We watched, trapped on the second floor of my company’s building as cars floated away. The death of my car was muddy and swift. Cars stacked themselves like cordwood around, but never hitting the AMG. The SLK never budged and was still perfectly parked in the lot. (I think the traction control was still on.) It was a contrast in ironies not missed by the TV crews and photographers.
Anyway, the waters receded and the car is (wet) toast. It was a great three weeks. Other than a little dirt, the outside looks good.
My ownership of a MB is short-lived as it was totaled by the insurer and they will pick it up Friday.
Anyone got a Firemist Red, low mile, 03-04 SLK 32 they want to sell? Give me a buzz!
I have pics for those that want to see the carnage.
The SUV is floating down the alley next to our building.
