Comand for SLK
Hey guys. Im new here and just picked up an 04 SLK320 special editon. Love the car. only thing i wish i had was a Comand unit for this. I cant seam to find anyone out there that makes a kit or even a picture of one in a R170. Im going to take this project on myself to see if i can get a good result. My idea was to take the last tray and the ashtray out and put the switches from above down there in a new custom built trim. Then make a new custom front trim for the center with room for the comand where the radio is now just extended down to where the switches used to be. Im sure i will need to modify the din trays to fit the comand and i have yet to pull eveything apart, or get my hands on a comand to find out how it will all fit together. Im sure i can get it to fit and look stock. Im just not to sure about the wiring of a comand unit or how it works yet being new to MB's. Anyone that knows where there are old stock (scratched, chiped or damages is ok) cheep parts for the center cluster that would be great. I would use the broken parts to build my setup and keep my good set just in case it didnt work out.
