SLK/R170: brake vaccum problem[death in the a.m.?]
each morning while leaving my garage the first press of the brake and the second has a hard pedel. i mean its like a rock, and is a bit scarey.what i do now is press the pedal and hold it ,then i rev the engine the pedel , then the pedal sinks and behaves as normal for the rest of the day.while looking under the bonnet i followed the brake boost vaccum pipe to a small unit mounted in a rubber ;cage; i dont know what the unit is, could this be the cause of the bas/esp light comming on sometimes?
please dont tell me take it to the dealer as mine is a ,well the ,,, lets leave it..
any advise gratefully accepted

I think you'll have to replaced the hole line.
Or just let the car warm up all the way in the morning,

To check brake booster on 99% of cars do this.
Press brake engine not running.
IF it has a little bit of vac left press a couple of times until peddle goes hard.
Continue to hold down and start engine. Pedal should sink a bit and feel softer.
