SLK/R170: Crankshaft Position Sensor

I read all the posts relating to replacing this sensor .I purchased a new cps and the tools necessary to remove /replace the sensor. I was able to remove the harness clip but removing the star torque bolt is another story. The problem I'm having is getting the E8 socket to mate with the bolt head. The bolt is hardly visible to see when viewing from above. What can be seen is maybe 10% of the bolt head. Has anyone besides myself encountered this problem?

I recall getting a small mirror, a flashlight, and a coat hanger. The flashlight and mirror let me see the bolt head better, and I used the bent coat hanger to guide a socket onto the bolt.
