SLK/R170: R170 Keyfobs
Thanks,
Lowell
There's a pin that holds the key in that must be removed, then the rest of the case is disassembled. Take the key and pin and put them on the new fob. There should also be a chip (looked like an old magnet in my VW key, but since I haven't disassembled this one I'm not certain what it'll look like) since I believe these cars have a transponder key.
Additionally if you're US based, the key machine at Walmart will put you in touch with someone who can get a whole new key and fob at probably not a DIY-friendly price, but most likely better than the "best answer" to your question which is "go to a dealer" (lol, no).
Keep in mind if you mess up the transponder chip during the operation you'll be SOL.
