Decided to replace, rather than rebuild the noisy, rumbling 170K miles M45 SC on my 2001 SLK 230, was lucky enough to find a NIB OEM M45 on eBay for $500. Does anyone know if I need to put oil in the SC, or would it have come pre-filled?
It’s easy enough to check. Do you have a date of manufacturer? If this has been sitting in a box for 10 years, you would definitely wanna change the oil regardless.

What a find! I did that the 1st time I changed mine, got lucky paid $600 but sold the old one for $250.
Buyer knew the mileage, forum member.
2nd time I wasn't so lucky and got a used one off an SLK with 75K miles for $250.
Now I've just replaced the entire car with a same year color/everything like new with only 35K miles
though the 'old' one still is running and driving as a backup with 262K miles.
