Unhappy Malfunctioning turn signals

Long time lurker, first time poster, so please be kind... Did a search of the archives, but didn't see any postings that exactly addressed my problem. Seems as though the turn signals/hazard lights on my 98 SLK230 remain steadily lit (i.e. no blinking) at times when they should be blinking. When the hazard switch is depressed, the ambers on each of the corners and the repeaters, as well, remain steadily lit. Does anyone know which part needs to be replaced and how accessible it would be for a weekend mechanic with minimal skills (that would be me )? Thanks.

There's not much you can do other than check the fuses and light bulbs, but based on your description I doubt that's the problem. External lighting is controlled by an integrated module which is not easy to diagnose or fix.

Thanks. I've assumed that it could possibly be a module. Any idea which one it could be and if I would be able to swap it myself?

Most likely the integrated lighting module. It is located right behind the light switch - actually, the light switch is part of the module. But I wouldn't replace it without diagnosis.

I talked to a MB mechanic today about this problem and he said he would bet it's a bad hazard switch (the actual red triangular switch in the dash), as it's a common fault in MBs and he replaces 100s of them each year.
