Details - Slk Drive 2/19/05

HERE ARE THE DETAILS
Mark your calendars for the February Northern California SLK Enthusiast meeting on 2/19/05.
Meeting at: Starbucks
2 Theatre Square #106
Orinda
Phone: 925-258-0476
Arrive at: 10:30 AM
Depart Starbucks at: 11:11 AM

To reach Starbucks in Orinda, take 24W (off of 680N from Dublin/Pleasanton area) or 24E (San Francisco,/Oakland/Berkeley) and exit at: Orinda Exit/#9 and make the second right off freeway for 24W direction. This will put you on Camino Pablo. Take it under the freeway and go about .3 mile to reach Brookwood and make a left. (There is a parking garage off of Brookwood on the left that you will pass but we will try to park in front of Starbucks.) Go to stop sign on Brookwood and go left onto Moraga Way. Starbucks is on your left just a 1/2 block down (at the end of the "town" area).

At 11:00 AM we will drive about 20-25 minutes to the Lawrence Hall of Science for a visit. Departing from Brookwood to Camino Pablo (same as we came in) and making a right. In about .3 mile we get back on 24W and continue 1.5 miles to Fish Ranch Road exit. This only goes one direction, we take it approx. .6 mile to a stop sign which will be Fish Ranch Road- go right. Take this .5 mile to Grizzly Peak Blvd. and go right. We will be on this road for about 2 miles and make a brief stop for photo ops at one of the scenic overlooks on the left side-just past the Steam Train sign (there are 3 within very close proximity of each other providing plenty of parking opportunity for us no matter how big/small of a group we are).

There were unbelievable views when this months organizers did this drive and hopefully we will also have a great, clear and warm day! This road is winding with lot's of bicyclists so again the family radios will help us all be careful.

Following this stop we will travel about 2 more miles to Centennial Road and make a left at this stop. This will be the entrance way to the Lawrence Hall of Science. We will park
in one of three parking areas PAST the first one on the left. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS A $1/HOUR CHARGE TO PARK HERE AND QUARTERS, ONE AND FIVE DOLLAR BILLS ARE ACCEPTED. Great panoramic view from the terrace.

After spending some time here, it's off to a nice and scenic 40 minute drive through Tilden Park! We'll take Centennial back to the stop sign and intersection of Grizzly Peak Blvd- BUT this time we'll go straight across at this stop sign. We will be entering Tilden Park soon by continuing on Golf Course Rd, which it is now called. In approx. 1 mile we will take a right at the stop sign which is Shasta Rd. Our next turn in the park is in about .2 mile at Wildcat Canyon- make a right here at the stop. This road will continue to be winding and have bicyclists. We will pass the Botanic Gardens and continue for .5 mile
and make a left at Inspiration Point for another scenic overlook!

Upon leaving this beautiful spot we'll continue left out of parking lot onto Wildcat Canyon again. This road ends at Camino Pablo- make a right here. Take this approx. 2.5 miles to 24E. It's time to drive to a fun place for lunch in Walnut Creek. Take 24 E around 5 miles to 680S. Take 680S for .5 mile and exit at S. Main and go left/under the
freeway. In approx. 2 miles look for Cypress and go left and then two blocks to Locust and go right. We're here!

Lunch: Pyramid Alehouse[:p][:p][:p]
1410 Locust
Walnut Creek
Phone number: 925-946-1520

The organizers have arranged for a short tour of this beer making facility about 12:30
PM. Afterwards it's lunch with friends new and old. The menu here features good appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, brick oven pizzas, sandwiches, and "Brewers Plates". When the organizers ate dinner here they had Roasted Tomato Cavatappi which is pasta with roasted chicken, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, oregano, capers and parmesan cheese. Superb! They also specialize in "Smaller Plates" and "Bigger Plates".

We should wrap up around 1:30-2 PM. Hoping you all- old AND new can make this meet and that you all enjoy it as much as the organizers did planning it!

Please remember to bring any family radios you have.

Cool UPDATE: Meet & Drive 2/19 - No. CA

One of the great things about our cars is the ability to run in rain with the top securing us from the torrents or in sunshine with the top down and open to the sky, or even change enroute. It looks like rain showers on Saturday, so the usual plea "come clean for photos" is relaxed. It'll be a fun run from Orinda to Berkeley to Walnut Creek.

This is a great route that is chosen, full of fun twisting turns, a great place to visit and a neat lunch spot. Hope you can make the meeting and drive. See you in Orinda at Starbucks...
